Punjab Vigilance Bureau fines Shopkeeper for selling Rs.5,000 for selling Milk above MRP

Aiming to keep check on the prices of essential commodities during curfew in the state, Punjab Vigilance Bureau today slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 for selling Amul milk packets on exorbitant rates in Ludhiana city.

Disclosing this here today, Spokesperson of the Bureau said on the basis of information received that Kala Karyana Store, Opposite Gurdwara Isharsar, in Basant Nagar, New Shimlapuri, Ludhiana was selling Amul milk packets to the public at Rs. 50 instead of Rs. 49. Acting upon the complaint of customer Pradeep Singh, VB team led by Inspector Surinder Singh raided the grocery store and fine of Rs 5,000 as compounding charges have been imposed on Kuldeep Singh, owner of the Karyana Store.

He further informed that Inspector Ajay Singh from Food and Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs department was also part of the raiding party. He added that poprietor of grocery store have violated rule 18(2) of the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules 2011 by selling milk packets at inflated rates.
