Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrests DHO, ASI in two different cases of bribe

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested District Health Officer (DHO) Amritsar Lakhbir Singh Bhagowalia for misusing his official position and getting illegal gratifications from business establishments. In addition to this an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Pawan Kumar posted at police station Lakho-ke-Bahiram has also been arrested in bribery case.

Disclosing this an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said the accused DHO was arrested on the basis of information and complaints received from various quarters for getting illegal gratifications.

During the investigation, the VB team have found that DHO and others have received lacs of rupees as bribe in lieu of issuing licenses to the owners of hotels and shopkeepers, for taking samples or helping them during checking by health officials.

He informed that a case has been registered against the DHO and others under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act at VB police station Amritsar and further investigations in this case are under progress.

In another bribery case ASI Pawan Kumar was nabbed red handed by VB while accepting bribe of Rs 8,000. He was arrested on the complaint of Sukhchain Singh of village Dala in Moga district.

The complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the accused ASI was threatening him and demanding bribe to exclude his brother’s name in a case. The complainant further said that he had already paid Rs. 10,000/- as a bribe to the accused ASI.

After verifying his information, the vigilance team laid a trap and the accused ASI was arrested on the spot while taking bribe of Rs. 8,000 more from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

He informed that a case has been registered against ASI under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act at VB police station Ferozepur further investigations in this case are under progress.
