Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal today announced that the SAD-BSP would restore truck unions which had been abolished by the Congress government once it was returned to power.
The SAD president made this statement while inducting Punjab Transport Ekta Union President Rajinder Singh Raju, who was a senior Congress functionary, into the SAD at a special meeting at the party head office here. He was accompanied by former MP Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra.
Stating that the present system initiated by the Congress government had created syndicates, Mr Sukhbir Badal said after restoring truck unions we sill form committees to ensure genuine rates are fixed to ensure the interests of the trucking community as well as trade and industry are safeguarded. He also announced that the next government would provide annual stickers to truckers to ensure they were not stopped by anyone on the road.
He also announced the appointment of Mr Rajinder Raju as the Senior vice president of the SAD Transport Wing.
Prof Chandumajra while speaking on the occasion, said during the last one and half years as many as 40,000 truckers and 55,000 taxis had been scrapped. He said thousands of truck and taxi drivers were out of work and were finding it difficult to make ends meet and castigated the Congress government for not coming to their aid.
SAD Transport wing President Pararmjit Singh Fazilka and Gurbinder Singh Binder Manila were also present on the occasion.
