Punjab to Send 1,500 Women Panchayat Leaders to Nanded Sahib; Revokes CISF at State Dams

Chandigarh, July 10, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has announced a historic initiative to send 1,500 high-performing women sarpanch and panchs on a fully funded pilgrimage to Nanded Sahib, commemorating the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib. Expenses for travel, lodging, meals, and special training in Maharashtra will be fully covered by the state government, with dedicated train arrangements in place.

Highlighting the pilgrimage’s significance, CM Mann explained that the trip is a tribute to these leaders’ dedication and an opportunity to pray for the prosperity and well-being of Punjab. “Nanded Sahib is sacred to Punjabis, and this initiative mirrors the spirit of women empowerment,” he said.

Revoking CISF Deployment at Dams

In a key policy reversal, CM Mann announced that Punjab will introduce a resolution in the Vidhan Sabha on Friday to retract the previous government’s decision—under Congress—to station CISF personnel at state dams. Mann asserted that the Punjab Police is fully capable of securing these facilities. “If Punjabis can protect our borders, they can certainly safeguard our dams,” he noted.

Political Jabs and Accountability Drive

Taking aim at political rivals, CM Mann criticized former Congress leader Sunil Jakhar—now with the BJP—for opportunistic politics amid recent setbacks like the Ludhiana by-election. He pledged to expose the “dubious character” of opposition figures in the upcoming Assembly session, accusing them of prioritizing self-interest over public good.

Tackling Drug Trade & Farmer Misrepresentation

CM Mann renewed his attack on the Akali regime, blaming them for enabling the synthetic drug trade. He revealed that key drug kingpins are currently imprisoned in Nabha. He also accused some farmer unions of misleading communities and distanced his government from self-styled groupings, reaffirming efforts toward land pooling reforms to crack down on illegal colonies.

National Leadership in Focus

The Chief Minister also took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning his overseas engagements and perceived neglect of domestic problems. “He celebrates foreign honors while everyday concerns of 140 crore Indians are ignored,” Mann observed, calling it “a sorry state of affairs.”

This sweeping Cabinet-led initiative combines religious outreach, women’s empowerment, and administrative reorientation, reflecting Punjab’s evolving governance under CM Mann.
