Punjab to consider providing Special weightage to NCC Certificate holders in Govt jobs: Tript Bajwa

The Punjab Government to consider providing special weightage to NCC Certificate holder cadets in government jobs. The Higher Education Minister Mr. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa here today assured to the NCC Officers during a high level meeting regarding a Annual Update on NCC Activities in Punjab.

The Minister assured full support and commitment of the Government of Punjab under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to all the officers of NCC Punjab for shaping the minds of the Youth of the state towards becoming better Citizens.

The Minister also said that accommodation would be constructed/provided in the government colleges to accommodate NCC Units. He was replying to an issue raised regarding NCC activities being carried from the private buildings for which high amount of rent is being paid.

The Minister issued directions to the senior officials of the higher education department to immediately prepare a case for this and get all the required sanctions from the concerned departments.

Regarding the demand for Granting Head of Department Status to the Additional DG NCC in respect of State Government Employees in NCC, the Minister was in total agreement with the proposal and directed that the case should be processed on priority in the light of other states having implemented the same.

Acknowledging the sensitive nature of Punjab as a Border State and the role of NCC in shaping the minds of the Youth, the Minister, called for an enhanced role of NCC in Punjab and its expansion. The Minister said that this matter would be taken up with the Government of India for the allotment of additional NCC Units to Punjab and raising of new Units.

The Minister said that issues of NCC Punjab related to higher education department would be redressed on top priority. To address financial issues of NCC Punjab, the minister directed the officials to arrange a joint meeting of NCC Officials, finance and higher education ministers at the earliest.

Earlier Maj Gen RS Mann, VSM, Additional DG, NCC Directorate Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh. (PHHP&C) said that after a fruitful meeting with Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh last year, after his directions to the concerned departments there is a full support from the Punjab Government which has resulted drastic improvement in the functioning of NCC in Punjab.

Others prominent present in the meeting included Principal Secretary Higher Education Mr. Anurag Verma, DPI Colleges Mrs Indu Balla, Deputy Director Jagjit Singh and senior officers of NCC Punjab which included Brig JS Samyal, Deputy Director General , NCC Directorate (PHHP&C), Group Captain AK Tripathi, Director, NCC Directorate (PHHP&C), Brig Ranbir Singh, Group Commander, NCC Group Patiala, Brig RK Mour, Group Commander, NCC Group, Amritsar, Brig Advitya Madan, Group Commander, NCC Group, Jallandhar, Col Sanjay Vig, Officiating Group Commander, NCC Group, Ludhiana, Col Prateek Hamal, Assistant Director, NCC Directorate (PHHP&C), Col BPS Thakur, Commanding Officer 23 Punjab Battalion NCC, Ropar and NCC Academy Ropar and Col Vijaydeep Singh, Commanding Officer, 19 Punjab Battalion NCC, Ludhiana.
