Chandigarh, April 25, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)
In a significant move signaling a firm stance against corruption and dereliction of duty, the Punjab Government has suspended SPS Parmar, the Chief Director of the state’s Vigilance Bureau. This unprecedented action follows allegations of inaction on his part in the ongoing Driving License Scam investigation.
Alongside Parmar, a Vigilance Bureau Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vigilance Bureau, Jalandhar Harpreet Singh Mander, and an Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Flying Squad Vigialnce Bureau SAS Nsgar Swarandeep Singh have also been suspended.
SPS Parmar’s tenure as Chief Director of the Vigilance Bureau was brief, having been appointed on March 26, 2025, replacing Nageshwara Rao IPS.
This marks the first instance where the Punjab Government has suspended an officer holding the rank of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) and simultaneously serving as the Director of the Vigilance Bureau, underscoring the seriousness with which the government views the alleged compromise of the Driving License Scam probe.
Prior to his appointment to the Vigilance Bureau’s top post, Parmar served as the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) in Punjab. He was also heading a Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Punjab Police to investigate the alleged assault on a serving Army Colonel and his son by twelve police personnel in Patiala earlier this month.
SPS Parmar’s career in law enforcement began with his induction into the state police service, followed by his elevation to the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 2012, with his seniority recognized retroactively to 1997.
This suspension represents a dramatic turn in his career and highlights the Punjab Government’s commitment to ensuring accountability within its investigative agencies.
