Punjab Speaker Rana KP Singh seeks relief in power tariff for common man

Chandigarh, October 10, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana KP Singh today sought relief in electricity tariff for the common people, particularly the trading community and those living in the urban areas.

In a statement issued here today, the Speaker said, he had raised the matter with the former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh earlier and he has brought it to the attention of the new Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi as well, who has been appreciative of the matter.

Welcoming the relief provided to different sections of the power consumers by the Chief Minister Channi, Speaker Rana said, the state government must extend this relief to everyone by, at least, reducing the tariff, which in Punjab is among the highest in the country.

He said, the common middle classes living in urban areas and the trading community in particular had suffered immensely during the last two years due to the COVID. “We need to ameliorate their condition to come out of these difficult times”, he said, while adding, their business was yet to get on track after a devastating phase of COVID.

The Speaker hoped that the state government will examine the issue as it will not have much financial implications since a large section of the society has already been provided the relief and extending it further won’t cost much. “There won’t be too much of an extra burden that the state cannot bear”, he remarked.
