Chandigarh, January 7, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
The Punjab Government has further extended winter holidays in all schools across the state, citing harsh weather conditions. As per the latest notification, schools in Punjab will now remain closed until January 13, 2026, and will reopen on January 14, 2026.
Announcing the decision, Harjot Singh Bains, Punjab’s Education Minister, said the move was taken keeping in view the severe cold wave, dense fog, and growing concerns regarding the health and safety of students as well as school staff.
According to the official order, the extension of winter vacations will be applicable to all government, government-aided, recognised, and private schools throughout Punjab.
Earlier, the state government had declared winter holidays from December 24 to December 31, 2025, with schools scheduled to reopen on January 1, 2026. Owing to unfavourable weather conditions, the break was first extended until January 7. The government has now decided to prolong the holidays further till January 13.
Officials of the education department said the prevailing weather situation continues to be monitored closely, and any further decision, if required, will be announced in advance.
