Punjab prepares draft estimate of damage to roads, bridges and buildings due to 2019 floods

The State Public Works Department (B&R) has prepared the preliminary damage assessment report regarding the roads, bridges and buildings falling under jurisdiction of PWD (B&R), informed the official spokesman of Government of Punjab.

Giving details, he said that due to recent heavy rains and floods, approximately 1450 km Link Roads, 420 km Plan Roads/ National Highways, 36 Bridges and 36 buildings under jurisdiction of Public Works Department (B&R) have been damaged.

The maximum Link roads and Plan roads damage has been observed in district Rupnagar wherein it is to the extent of 693.96 km and 123.1 km respectively.

Approximately, Rs. 95.50 crore is required for the repairs but the exact cost can be estimated only when the flood water recedes completely, he informed. He said that the basic patchwork and repair of road breaches is underway.

With the release of requisite funds, subsequently, the major work of restoration of road infrastructure like replacing irreparable bridges, replacement of washed-away stretches and culverts etc. will be under taken at war-footing said he.
