Punjab Police takes Social Media by storm, gets a Million Views on Tik Tok in 24 hours – with Videos

Social Media is fast evolving as tool of effective communication for Punjab Police to reach out to people through unique and creative initiaves at the time of lockdown. The authorities are now using youth centric platforms like Tik Tok, Sharechat, Facebook and Twitter to spread the message and collect feedback apart from monitoring the situation.

In fact, it was Police Chief Dinkar Gupta who took the lead and launched a video appealing people to share creative ideas to reach out to more people so that purpose of imposing curfew gets fulfilled and people stay home and not face trouble in getting essential commodities.

After the encouraging response, the force has made a debut on Tik Tok and Sharechat where it is sharing information on Corona in an entertaining way. Videos on these youth centric sites got more than 1 Million (10 lakh) views in as it helped people sharing their feedback in form of ideas and grievances related that were pondered over by the top brass.

Among many of these videos is ‘Deepu di Biryani’ animation remains the top trend. This creative video states the benefits of staying at home, during a pandemic. Video shows how Deepu became a Biryani Specialist watching videos on Youtube in relatively free time during the lockdown and can show off his culinary skills now. Primary message of such videos is to motivate people to stay at home and stay safe.

In another viral video, Police personnel are asking people to cover their mouth while coughing to protect everyone from Corona. What makes this video different from routine ones is that Police personnel convey the message on beat of Dhol while doing Bhangra.

The performers in the video are advising people to follow social distancing norms and avoid handshakes apart from using sanitizers and keeping the surrounding clean and hygenic. In fact netizens have liked the content so much that over ten thousand people have already shared them after watching that has put them among the top trending posts.

Apart from that Police is also using cartoons and caricatures to inform people about the toll-free numbers and avenues to reach Police and medical staff in case of an emergency.

Tik Tok a Chinese video sharing platform is enormously popular in youth as it gives them opportunity to share crazy and creative videos. People associated with the development in IT Cell firmly believes that Punjab Police pursuit on Social Media will help them building trust with the people and confine them to their homes during the curfew imposed in the wake of the global pandemic. The Police authorities are slated to launch an extensive campaign to develop responsibility-driven community policing.

These videos have shown the humane side of Punjab Police that would eventually motivate people to create awareness on Corona virus.
