In a major crackdown against drugs, the Jaandhar Rural Police today busted an interstate drug smugglers gang with the arrest of two youth including its kingpin, who belongs to a family involved in terrorism in the state during black days, along with 16 kilograms of opium.
Divulging the details, the Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Navjot Singh Mahal said that on a tip off the CIA Staff Jalandhar was checking vehicles at Mallian Mod under Kartarpur Police station on Saturday night.
He said that Police party stopped an I-20 car that was approaching fastly towards the check post. However, Mr. Mahal said that instead of stopping the car, two youth sitting in it tried to flee away by speeding up the car, which was stopped with the help of barricades.
The Senior Superintendent of Police said that as the Police party checked the youth they recovered three kilograms of youth from Punjab Singh (25) s/o Inder Singh r/o village Patti Palla in Amritsar and Daljeet Singh (25) s/o Gurnam Singh r/o village Patti Palla in Amritsar.
He said that both the youth had hided the opium in spine support type belt adding that when car was checked 10 kilograms of opium was recovered from the hardboard on the rear doors of the car. Mr. Mahal said that a total of 16 kilogram of Opium has been seized from both the youth.
The Senior Superintendent of Police said that Punjab Singh, who was now involved in narco-terrorism, belongs to a family which was actively involved in terrorist activities during the black days in state. He said that his family was encountered by Police for their unlawful activities.
Mr. Mahal said that Punjab was earlier arrested by Police with 800 grams of Opium and was out on bail adding that now he was heading this drug peddling gang which was involved in smuggling of Opium from Bihar into the state. He said that further investigation into the case was going on.
