Punjab Police busts illegal Pharma Factory in Himachal, tablets worth Rs.15-cr recovered, owner arrested

In another major crackdown, the Punjab Police on Thursday late evening, made a big seizure of over 30 lakh tablets and capsules of Pharma opioids including Tramadol and Alprax, during a raid at an illegal storage factory “Unique Formulations” in Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh.

The Police have also arrested the factory owner who has been identified as Munish Mohan, a resident of Devi Nagar in Paonta Sahib, Sirmaur.

Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Dinkar Gupta said that as part of the ongoing Drive Against Drugs, the Amritsar Rural Police led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dhruv Dahiya have busted a Himachal Pradesh based factory dealing with illegal manufacturing and supply of pharmaceutical drugs.

He said that, as part of the investigations into the recovery of 50000 Tramadol tablets from three persons on May 18, 2021, a Police team led by Station House Officer (SHO) Mattewal Lovepreet Singh and Sub Inspector Gurwinder Singh conducted a raid at the factory in the presence of local Himachal Pradesh Police and local drug inspector of Sirmaur. Two drug inspectors, Sukhdeep Singh and Amarpal Malli from Amritsar also accompanied the raiding team, he said.

The DGP said that the Police have recovered 30,16,332 intoxicant tablets, including 12.45 lakh Tramadol capsules, 7.72 lakh Tramadol tablets, 9.99 lakh Alprax (Alprazolam) tablets approximately valued at 15 crore rupees from the illegal factory being run in Himachal Pradesh.

He said that the factory is being sealed and the arrested person will be brought to Punjab after completing all the legal formalities. He said that ASP Majitha Abhimanyu Rana and DSP Detective Gurinder Nagra played a vital role in the execution of this operation.

SSP Dhruv Dahiya said that the FIR no. 51/2021 under sections 22, 29, 61, 85 of the NDPS Act was already registered at Mattewal Police Station in Amritsar Rural and further investigations into the case are on.

Meanwhile, earlier in 2020, the Punjab Police had unearthed the illegal pharma trade after seizing big haul of 2.8 crore tablets and capsules of Pharma opioid including Tramadol and Clovidol from Neutec Pharma godown at Narela (Delhi) and the Police had also arrested the owners, including Krishan Arora and his son Gaurav Arora from Delhi.
