Punjab paid for travel of 1.80 lakh Migrants, Jakhar tells Sitharaman

Chandigarh, May 17, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)
Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Mr. Sunil Jakhar on Sunday reminded the Union Finance Minister Mrs. Nirmala Sitharaman that Punjab had so far arranged to send 1.80 lakh migrant labors to their homes at its own cost. Contrary to the daily announcements made by the Center, the workers have not received any help from the Modi
government.

Terming as irresponsible the statement of the Union Finance Minister in which Mrs. Nirmala Sitharaman had said that the states had not helped the migrant workers, Mr. Jakhar appealed to the Union Minister that while holding a responsible position, she should check the facts before making any statement.

He said that while migrant workers were being sent home from Punjab by special trains as per their wishes, bus travel assistance was also being provided besides other facilities at local level during their stay.

More special trains for migrant labor were proposed for coming week. Punjab is sacred land of the Gurus and none was left to starve in the time of crisis that erupted due to pandemic threat. “Before making any comment about the states, the central government should check out its own performance, he said.
