Punjab Govt will solve your problems, Jakhar assures Basmati Exporters, Rice Millers

Chandigarh, September 7, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Sunil Jakhar today assured representatives of the Basmati industry to take up their problems with the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh soon.

While interacting with a delegation of Punjab Basmati Rice Millers and Exporters Association and Punjab Rice Industry Association, he said that the issues related to bank guarantee and levy security of the rice industry would also be resolved. Raminder Awla, MLA, Jalalabad and Ranjam Kamra Fazilka, acting District President of the organisation were also present on the occasion.

On the occasion Bal Krishan, President, Punjab Basmati Rice Millers and Exporters Association said that the cost of basmati export from Punjab was higher than other states which makes the state’s basmati rice industry lag behind in basmati exports. Bharat Bhushan Binta, President, Punjab Rice Industry Association also highlighted demands relating to levy, security and bank guarantee.

PPCC chief assured that their demands would be effectively addressed by the state government. “Punjab industry could compete nationally and internationally only if the tax rates for basmati were uniform in all the states. For this I would meet the Chief Minister and make him aware of your demands in detail, he added.

Jakhar said that Basmati is cultivated under the crop diversification policy of the state government, its cultivation saves a lot of water and it is also a popular crop among the farmers. As its export also earns foreign exchange to the country, the problems of the industry need to be solved by the government on priority basis.

He said that the government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, farmers and the industry were on the same page. “With the advancement of the farmers the state would prosper and with the strengthening of industry the employment opportunities for the youth would increase. While the basmati industry includes both the sectors, the government will address the demands of this sector on a priority basis, he added.
