Punjab Govt To Lay Foundation of New Govt College in Bikrour Border Area Next Month: Dhaliwal

Amritsar/Ajnala, October 29, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab MLA and former Cabinet Minister S. Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal announced that, under the leadership of Aam Aadmi Party’s National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, and AAP Punjab In-Charge and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, the border constituency of Ajnala is set to receive a historic gift.

On the occasion of Diwali, Bandi Chhor Divas, and Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Parkash Utsav, a major educational milestone will be achieved with the approval of a new Government College at Bikrour village.

The college will be built on 15 acres of land at a cost of ₹15 crore, marking an important step in Punjab’s higher education revolution. This initiative will especially benefit about 50–55 surrounding villages, whose youth—both boys and girls—previously deprived of higher education opportunities, will now gain access to modern courses such as Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence.

These programs will help them become self-reliant and skilled for digital-age employment, moving beyond manual or low-paying work and joining the Digital India movement.

S. Dhaliwal made this announcement during a press conference held at the party’s Ajnala constituency office, attended by a large gathering of village sarpanches from nearby border areas such as Balrawal.

He further revealed that the foundation stone for the college will be laid at the end of November by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Manish Sisodia. The college is expected to begin student admissions in May–June 2026, after the declaration of Class 12 examination results for the academic year 2026–27.

With the establishment of the Government College at Bikrour, the total number of government colleges in Punjab will increase to 48, and notably, this will be the first government college in the border belt of Punjab under the Mann Government.

Dhaliwal stated that the slogan “Let knowledge spread everywhere” has long been seen written on walls but rarely realized in action. He criticized the previous Congress and Akali-BJP governments for depriving border residents of their fundamental right to higher education through deliberate neglect, keeping them backward and uneducated.

He recalled that during a pre-election rally, his demand for a government college in the area was endorsed by Manish Sisodia, who had then promised that the college would be established if the AAP formed the government in Punjab. Today, with Dhaliwal’s dedicated efforts, that promise has become a reality.

On this occasion, Dhaliwal honored Sarpanch Lakha Singh of Bikrour for handing over 15 acres of panchayat land to the government for the college and extended his gratitude to the Gram Panchayat.

Notable attendees included Khushpal Singh Dhaliwal, Advocate Amandeep Kaur Dhaliwal (Constituency Education Coordinator), Municipal Council President Bhatti Jaspal Singh Dhillon, Urban President & Chairman Amit Aul, OSD Charanjit Singh Sidhu, Office Secretary Gurjant Singh Sohi, Chairman Baldev Singh Babbu Chetanpura, and several sarpanches and panches.
