Punjab Govt should pay Rs.1-cr compensation to Moga firing victim Head Constable: Manuke

Chandigarh, June 15, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab senior leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema, and Deputy Leader of Opposition (Dy LoP) Bibi Sarabjit Kaur Manuke have demanded a compensation of Rs one crore to the family of head constable Jagmohan Singh, who was shot dead by a miscreant at Khosa Pando village under Moga district, and a government job to an eligible member.

In a joint statement issued from party headquarters on Monday, Harpal Singh Cheema and Sarabjit Kaur Manuke said had Jagmohan Singh not confronted the criminal Gurwinder Singh, he would have proved to be human bomb, leading to loss of lives of innocent villagers and police personnel, by risking his own life, adding that the exemplary bravery exhibited by Jagmohan Singh to challenge the killer was commendable.

Cheema informed that he, in his capacity as the Leader of Opposition, had written to Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, demanding that Government should also frame a policy, on the lines of the Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi, so that in case of death of Army, paramilitary and Punjab Police personnel while on the line of duty, his/her family should be immediately paid compensation worth Rs. 1 crore and a government job to an eligible member of the family.

The AAP leaders offered their sympathies to the other brave hearts, including CIA Inspector Tarlochan Singh and Constable Bachan Singh who were injured in the shooting incident, adding the government should honor them for their exemplary courage by promoting them to the next rank.

They also demanded that the trial in the case be expedited to ensure stricter punishment to the accused.
