Punjab Govt has failed to take on Covid crisis in state: Harpal Cheema

Sangrur, August 7, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

Senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema, expressing grave concern over the total failure of the saddle, said it had failed to combat the Covid-19 crisis in the state during the past over four months.

Interacting with media persons here on Friday, Harpal Singh Cheema said that the spurt in the Covid cases by 1000 cases every single day had deflated the government’s tall claims of having adequate combative measures in place.

Cheema said the Maharaja’s (CM) tall claims of having spent a whopping amount of Rs 300 crore on the Covid pandemic, urging him to make it public as to where the amount was spent, demanding he bring out a white paper on the total expenditure made by far and the donations received from the public.

The LoP lamented that all was hunky-dory if reports on Covid care mechanism if reports are to be believed, saying that the body of Covid-infected patient remained unattended at a Patiala hospital for 11 long hours, while another patient from Ludhiana died while waiting for a bed at a hospital there, yet another patient at a Tarn Taran hospital refusing to be ferried in a ramshackle state ambulance, and the run-down condition of the Covid care centres at Bathinda, Barnala and elsewhere spoke volumes about the poor combative arrangements at various Covid centers in the state.

Cheema said had the state government been a little serious about the unprecedented spike in the Covid cases, it should have emulated the Delhi model to effectively tackle the crisis. Expressing serious concern over 450 jawans of the police force tested positive for coronavirus, saying that the DGP’s dragging feet on their testing at a large scale was irresponsible and uncalled for statement of the state police chief.

Lauding the role of the Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi in dealing with the crisis, Cheema said it (Delhi government) given the best model across the country facilitating 10 lakh testing, besides initiating ten other steps to this effect, including provision of ventilators, beds, home-isolation, and oxygen to combat the Covid crisis, while patients were crying for care in various Covid hospitals in Punjab.

Others who were present on the occasion included Rajwant Singh Ghulli, district president, Tepinder Singh Soi, Amardeep SinghDhandra and Maninder Singh Dirba.
