Punjab Govt committed to welfare of Journalist fraternity, Arora hands over Rs.10-lakh cheque to family of Ashwani Kapoor

In pursuance of the decision of Punjab Government to provide a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family, if any journalist dies of COVID-19, the Industries and Commerce Minister Sunder Sham Arora on Friday handed over a cheque of Rs 10 lakh to the family of journalist Ashwani Kapoor, who succumbed to the virus on September 29, 2020.

Accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait, the Minister went to the residence of Kapoor family at local Bishambar Nagar, where he handed over the compensation from Punjab Government to Veena Kapoor, the wife of journalist Ashwani Kapoor.

Describing Ashwani Kapoor an upright and dedicated journalist, the Minister said that the journalist was a fine human being too, who was committed to the professional ethics and worked in the field of journalism for over four decades. Pertinently, Kapoor was working as Senior Correspondent in a vernacular daily at Hoshiarpur.

Arora also recalled Kapoor’s remarkable services in journalism besides assuring the family of fulsome support from the State Government in future too.

Meanwhile, the Industries Minister reiterated Punjab Government’s commitment towards welfare of journalist fraternity.

Notably, the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s announced to extend a relief of Rs 10 lakh to the accredited or yellow card holder journalists in case of death due to Covid-19.

Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included Chairman Improvement Trust Advocate Rakesh Marwaha, Kanav Kapoor, Nidhi Kapoor, Raman Kapoor and Harish Saini etc.
