Punjab Education Dept should deliver books to students at their homes: AAP

Chandigarh, April 15, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

Expressing its serious concern over the education of students, especially those studying at government schools in the state amid lockdown, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has demanded that the Congress government should get the books provided by state education department delivered home sooner than later.

In a joint statement issued from party headquarters on Wednesday, state core committee chairman and MLA Principal Budh Ram, prominent educationist and former parliamentarian Prof. Sadhu Singh, deputy leader of opposition (Dy LoP) in Punjab Assembly Bibi Sarabjit Kaur Manuke and master Baldev Singh said that new academic session 2020-21 had already begun from April 1, 2020, adding that were the situation normal, the students of government schools, would have started their syllabuses as the books would have reached them, but could happen in view of the nationwide lockdown. They said the students were not able to attend their schools on a regular basis due to the epidemic causing irreparable loss to their studies.

Principal Budh Ram and Prof. Sadhu Singh said the books for the current session 2020-21 be got delivered home by state education department immediately so that a large number of students belonging to Dalit community, the poor and ordinary rural families, could start their studies sitting at home.

Bibi Sarabjit Kaur Manuke said that most of the private schools in the state had made the syllabus to their students on-line, via e-mails and smart phones, et al, saying that it was gratifying to note that the government school teachers replicated the private schools’ model by forming WhatsApp groups, which later got a big hand by the departmental concerned.

She added that much more needed to be done to make it going as a large number of students had no access to smart phones and other gadgets, depriving them of the online facility through WhatsApp, e-mails etc. The only way forward was to deliver home the books to such students enabling them to continue their studies uninterrupted.

Master Baldev Singh on the occasion said that if the education department could decide on providing ration to the beneficiaries on account mid-day meal, why couldn’t it get the books delivered home through the teaching staff?
