Punjab Congress to protest on Nov 15 to flay Modi govt.’s anti-people Economic Policies: Jakhar

Chandigarh, November 3, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

Congress will organise protest at all district head-quarters across the state on Nov 15 to flay Union Government’s anti-people policies. The party will also oppose the decision to sign Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) treaty as the same was against the interests of indigenous farmers.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the district presidents presided over by PPCC president Mr. Sunil Jakhar at Punjab Congress Bhawan here today. In the meeting, duties were also assigned to befittingly commemorate Sri Guru Nanak Dev’s 550th birth anniversary as per religious spirit, The DCC presidents were also told to gear up preparations for local government elections.

Mr. Jakhar said that the people were suffering of severe depression due to the irrational economic policies of Modi government. Industries were shutting; unemployment was at its highest rate.

Instead of getting new jobs for youth, the number of jobs of already employed people was nose diving. Farming is going through its worst phase. He said that the party had planned protest across the state on November 15 to highlight the failures of the Central government on all fronts.

Talking about RCEP Mr. Jakhar said that after the RCEP agreement, the economy of farmers and milk producers in India will be completely destroyed. Under this agreement, import of cheap grain and milk products from abroad would flow in freely. This will have a direct adverse impact on Indian farmers who were not getting full value for their produce already.

However, after the implementation of this agreement, the peasantry of the country will be worst hit. Already the policies of the BJP-led Modi government had been anti-farmer but with this treaty, the Modi government plans to make the farmers beggars.

On such anti-farmer steps of the NDA Government, Mr. Jakhar also questioned the Akali Dal, an ally in the Center, why the party leaders who claimed to be saviours of farmers were silent. He alleged that the SAD leadership had completely ignored the interests of the farmers.

Jakhar invited all the party leaders to attend the 550th Prakash-Purb event of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji at Sultanpur Lodhi on November 12. He said that all possible efforts were made by the Punjab government to ensure common stage but the ego of the Akali leaders did not allow this to happen.

On the occasion Mr. Jakhar also assigned duties to district president to prepare for the elections of local bodies, which are scheduled in the coming months. He said that people should be made aware of the achievements of Punjab government. He said that the government, led by Congress Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, was working according to its election manifesto
