Punjab Congress MLA Parminder Pinki slams leaders making flood area visit a ‘photo opportunity’

Chandigarh/Ferozepur, August 27, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab Congress MLA Parminder Singh Pinki today called upon the members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha from Punjab to contribute their MPLAD fund for flood relief in the affected areas.

“We should rise above party and political considerations as it is a human tragedy and everybody should come forward to help those in distress. Infrastructure in flood affected areas has been badly damaged. The MPs should divert the entire MPLAD fund for providing relief in every possible way. MPLAD fund would help in restoring the infrastructure”, he added.

He said if not the entire discretionary fund, the MPs should contribute at least Rs 2 crore each.

Parminder urged the political leaders to desist from indulging in public relation exercise by just visiting the area and getting photographed rather than mitigating the problems being faced by the people. He said it was disgusting that some leaders visited the flood affected areas, got themselves photographed and returned.

He said the focus now should be on repairing the damage to the infrastructure as the roads have not just been damaged but washed away in several areas. The possibility of infection was a serious issue as the water start receding.

He said timely action by the civil and police administration in Ferozepur minimised the damage barring that to roads and the life.

He said the flood relief should be the top priority in practical terms and this would be test of commitment of the political leaders to the concerns of the people.
