Punjab challenges CAT order quashing Dinkar Gupta’s appointment as DGP

Chandigarh, January 20, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

The Punjab Government Monday filed a petition in the Punjab & Haryana High Court challenging the CAT order quashing the appointment of Punjab DGP Dinkar Gupta.

The petition is likely to be taken up by the High Court on Tuesday, 21st of January, 2020.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Central Administrative Tribunal had allowed the petition of Senior IPS Officer Mohammad Mustafa who had challenged the appointment of Dinkar Gupta claiming that seniority and other factors including his meritorious services and recognition in form of Medals were not considered while appointing Gupta as DGP of the state.

Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, had come out in support of Dinkar Gupta and publicly announced that he would continue to be the DGP. In his first reaction to the media after the CAT order, Amarinder Singh had said that his government would go to HC against the CAT order.

It may be recalled that Gupta’s appointment had created a bad breath among some officers including Mohammad Mustafa and S Chattopadhya who were in race for appointment as DGP.
