Punjab approves Rs.105-cr for LED Lights, Smart Roads, Disaster Management under Smart City Project

The development of the city would get a major fillip as major development works worth Rs 105 crore have been approved by the Punjab government led by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, which would start very soon under the Smart City Project in Jalandhar.

Divulging more details, the Chief Executive Officer of Jalandhar Smart City Project Mr. Jitendra Jorwal said that a decision to this effect was recently by the state government. He said that as per the decision three major projects ‘City level Disaster Management Activities Plan’, ‘Installation of Smart LED Street Lights and Centralized Control & Monitoring System on CAPEX Mode with Operation and Maintenance in Jalandhar City’ and ‘Development of Smart Roads in ABD area’ have been green signal by the state government.

Mr. Jorwal said that Rs 20.22 crore would be spent on ‘City level Disaster Management Activities Plan’, Rs 46.02 crore on Installation of Smart LED Street Lights and Centralized Control & Monitoring System on CAPEX Mode with Operation and Maintenance in Jalandhar City’ and Rs 39.29 crore for ‘Development of Smart Roads in ABD area’.

The Chief Executive Officer said that main aim of the City Disaster Management was to localize disaster activity and contain its effect to greatest extent so as to minimize its impact on life, environment and property.

He said that under this preparation of City Level Disaster Management Plan would take place along with training of teams identified in city level Plan, Capacity Building of Line departments, mock drills for Applicable hazards, structural audit of Government buildings as pre identified in City level Disaster Management Plan along with procurement of Fire Safety Equipment.

Likewise, the Chief Executive Officer said that under the Installation of Smart LED Street Lights and Centralized Control & Monitoring System on CAPEX Mode with Operation and Maintenance in Jalandhar City project the conventional street lights would be replaced by suitable capacity of Smart LED lights. He said that the estimated cost of this project was Rs 46.02 crore.

Similarly, the Chief Executive Officer said that four roads with a length of 4.95 kilometres would be transformed into Smart Roads. He said that these roads namely 120 feet road from Kapurthala Road to Babu Jagjeevan Ram Chowk, Mahavir Marg from Football Chowk to Kapurthala Road, Kapurthala Road from Kapurthala Chowk to 120 feet road intersection and Mahatma Hans Raj Marg from HMV Chowk to DAV College would be made Smart Road.

Mr. Jorwal said that objective to redesign identified roads in ABD area to improve overall traffic movement and safety measures with NMT lanes/ Cycle tracks, Wider Pedestrian Pathways, storm water drains, underground utility duct and others. He said that rearrangement of electric wire system would also be made to improve the safety and urban aesthetic form.
