Zirakpur (SAS Nagar), December 20, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)
To rescue children from beggary, the district administration on Saturday conducted an anti-child begging drive in Zirakpur under the Punjab Government’s flagship campaign Project Jeewanjyot 2.0, resulting in the recovery of 15 children.
Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal said the drive was carried out as per the directions of Social Security, Women and Child Welfare Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur. Pending verification of identity and documents, the rescued children have been shifted to registered Child Care Institutes, informed District Child Protection Officer Navpreet Kaur, who led the drive.
Reiterating the administration’s zero-tolerance approach towards child exploitation, the Deputy Commissioner said such drives will continue. Officials highlighted that engaging children in begging is a punishable offence under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
Chairman, Child Welfare Committee, Kulwant Singh Guru, said DNA testing will be recommended in cases where alleged parents fail to produce valid identity documents.
Citizens have been urged to report instances of child begging on Child Helpline 1098 for immediate intervention.
