PSPCL imposes fine of Rs.72.67 lacs on 19 consumers for theft and violations: Harbhajan Singh ETO

Power minister Punjab Shri Harbhajan Singh disclosed that different enforcement teams of PSPCL conducted checking of various connections through out the state during last 2 days in order to control pilferage of electricity.

Shri Harbhajan Singh said that during checking by different enforcement wings PSPCL has imposed a fine 72.67 lacs to 19 number consumers for theft of electricity and other violations.

Power minister disclosed that a team of enforcement wing from Amritsar checked a hotel near Attri border and imposed a fine of rupees 15.70 lacs to the consumer. The connected load of the consumer found 30.456 kw against sanctioned load of 12.130 kw.for theft of electricity and pspcl has written to anti power theft police station Verka for registration of a FIR against consumer.

Minister also disclosed that during the checking by enforcement teams of bathinda, successfully caught a theft being done by fish farming consumer. Fine of Rs 11.81 lakhs imposed to consumer and FIR has been lodged against consumer. During checking it is found that consumer doing theft of electricity through neutral of meter and through change over switch. The consumer found running load of 25kw against sanctioned load of 19.8kw.

He further said that enforcement team raided on a dera Romiwala, village Gihri, near mour mandi and found dera supply was running on connected load of 20.3 KW whereas sanctioned load of the dera is Rs. 5.24 KW and fine of Rs. 3.13 lakhs was imposed for unauthorized use of electricity under electricity act 2003.*

He also added that enforcement teams checked advocate chambers and photostat shops at tehsil complex Jalalabad and also city police colony at Jalalabad. During checking 15 no. theft cases were detected and fine of Rs. 5.30 lakhs was imposed to defaulter consumers.

He said that enforcement team of jalandhar checked a medium supply connection and found that the meter recording energy 50 percentage less than actual consumption. The connection was released in the month of April, 2017.The load of the consumer is 80 kw .The account of consumer was overhauled & amount of Rs. 36.73 lacs has been charged. The inquiry regarding role of pspcl official in this lapse is being investigated & strict disciplinary action will be initiated against the delinquent officials.

Punjab State Power Corporation Limited has appealed to all its esteemed consumers to help PSPCL in controlling the menace of theft of electricity by providing feedback about theft of power for campaign against theft of electricity in the state.
