Providing affordable ‘power’ to people, prime duty of Amarinder Govt: Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi / Chandigarh, June 29, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will remain active and reach out to every village and mohalla for the next two months in view of the high electricity tariff in state. This decision was taken on Saturday at a meeting convened by national convener of the party and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi to chart out plans to accelerate the pace of the ongoing ‘Bijli Andolan’ in the state.

Those who were in attendance at the high-powered meeting included Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia, Cabinet Minister Gopal Rai, Punjab unit President MP Bhagwant Mann, Chairman of State Core Committee Principal Budhram, Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema, Aman Arora, Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Rupinder Kaur Ruby, Manjit Singh Bilaspur, Meet Hayer, Jai Kishan Singh Rori (All MLAs), Core Committee member Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, state treasurer Sukhwinder Sukhi, Jamil-u-Rehman, Dalbir Singh Dhillon, Dr Balbir Singh, Manjit Singh Sidhu, Chairman of the Political Review Committee, Harchand Singh Bursat, besides Presidents of all the districts, Halka Pradhans, Lok Sabha candidates and heads of various wings and office-bearers of the party.

On this occasion, Legislator Meet Hayer was entrusted with the responsibility of the overall management of the ‘Bijli andolan’. A decision to constitute a ‘Bijli Morcha’ committee was also taken, which would, with the help of experts, train the people of Punjab to examine their electricity bills and meters themselves.

During the deliberations, Aman Arora highlighted that the people of the state were left to suffer due to the long-term and anti-state power purchase agreements (PPAs) signed between the erstwhile Badal government and three private thermal plants, stating that earlier Badals were pocketing hefty ‘commission’ worth crores and now the Captain and his acolytes were falling in their (Badals) footsteps, which was why Captain Amarinder Singh was dragging his feet to scrap the PPAs, a promise he pedalled among the people before 2017 assembly polls.

On the occasion, Arvind Kejriwal said that the misdeeds of the previous SAD-BJP and now the Congressmen government in the state be exposed to the people by reaching out to each household, adding that before the Aam Aadmi Party government came to power, a mighty power mafia was calling the shots in Delhi. He said his government took hard decisions to tame it and made electricity cheapest in the country. The government was mulling to reduce power tariff further, he added.

On this occasion, Manish Sisodia said that the ongoing ‘Bijli Andolan’ would prove to be a nail in the Captain Amrinder Singh Government’s coffin.

Punjab chief of the party Bhagwant Mann on the occasion said that he would raise the issue of usurping worth crores by the Captain government from private power players on the floor of the Parliament.
