Prof Surjit Hans, who translated Shakespeare into Punjabi, passes away

Noted Sikh historian and Punjabi writer Prof Surjit Hans passed away Friday morning after a prolonged illness.

He was the father of Ms Nanki Hans, Chief News Editor, The Tribune.

Hans breathed his last at 6 am in Chandigarh today.

Born on Oct 31, 1939, Hans had authored more than 70 books. His book ‘Mitti Di Dheri’ was much acclaimed.

He was awarded for his contribution by Punjab Sahit Akademi and Chandigarh Sahit Academy.

Hans was appreciated worldwide and honored in London for translating Shakespeare in Punjabi.
