A distinguished academician, Prof Raghavendra Prasad Tiwari, assumed the office as the third Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Punjab on Saturday, 22nd August 2020. His Excellency, Shri. Ram Nath Kovind, Honourable President of India, in his capacity as the Visitor of University has appointed Prof. R.P. Tiwari as the third Vice-Chancellor of CUPB as per statute 2 of Central Universities Act 2009.
As per the letter issued by Ministry of Education to CUPB Registrar on 13th August, the term of service of Prof Tiwari as Vice-Chancellor will be of five years from the date on which he enters upon his office, or until he attains the age of seventy years, whichever is earlier, Prof. R.K. Kohli, the second Vice-Chancellor of CUPB, conveyed his best wishes to Prof. Tiwari, and relinquished the charge to the new Vice-Chancellor in the presence of university officials and faculty members.
Prof. R.P. Tiwari has an impressive academic & administrative experience of over thirty-six years. Before joining as the Vice-Chancellor of CUPB, Prof. Tiwari was working as the Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, Sagar. He has also served as Dean, School of Earth Sciences and Natural Resource Management, and Head of Geology Dept. at Mizoram University. Prof. Tiwari did PhD in Geology (Palaeontology) from Gauhati University.
He specializes in the field of Earth Sciences including Palaeontology & Stratigraphy, and Seismology & GPS Geodesy. He was conferred with L. Rama Rao Birth Centenary Award (2012) from Geological Society of India for his significant contribution to Indian Stratigraphy and Palaeontology.
While entering the land of Punjab, he bowed to the holy soil of Punjab .Before joining the office, Prof. R.P. Tiwari visited CUPB Monument built at Central University of Punjab Main Campus situated at Ghudda, Dist Bathinda, to promote the spirit of Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan, and Jai Anusandhan. After taking the charge as the Vice-Chancellor of the CUPB, Prof. Tiwari, paid obeisance at ‘Takhat Shri Damdama Sahib, Talwandi Sabo’.
After assuming the office, Prof. R.P. Tiwari interacted with CUPB faculty and staff members. In his address, Prof. Tiwari mentioned that we will work together to make education accessible to all by following the fundamental principles of non-discrimination, solidarity, equality of opportunity & treatment for all, and universal access to education,. He asserted that all efforts would be made to uplift the standards of teaching & research to international level, & to make CUPB as one of the best Universities in the country
On this occasion, Shri K.P.S. Mundra, Registrar, Prof V.K. Garg, Dean Student Welfare, Prof R.K. Wusirika, Dean Incharge Academic Affairs, Prof Anjana Munshi, Dean Research, and senior faculty & staff members were present.
