Pristine glory of Dabbi Bazar & Sheesh Mahal Bazar to be restored within 6 months: Sunder Sham Arora

With commencement of beautification project at city’s old Dabbi Bazaar and Sheesh Mahal Bazar in coming days, this heritage street will get a complete facelift with uniform look from its entrance towards the bazaar side.

The blueprint to restore pristine glory of these bazaars are on the edge of finalisation and an expert team from Indian National Trust for Art and Culture Heritage (INTACH) is also visiting the Sheesh Mahal Bazaar to chalk out the further planning so that the similar facades could be developed in these areas. As Dabbi Bazaar is already a heritage street, the entire look of this place will be developed on the rich heritage pattern.

Punjab Industries and Commerce Minister Sunder Sham Arora, who today took a walking round of these areas situated at the heart of city, said that the Punjab Government would provide sufficient funds for this heritage project once the blueprint is finalised. He said that the beautification project being carried out from the entrance of the Dabbi Bazaar having alike facades of entire market at the pattern of other heritage cities like Jaipur and Jodhpur.

Both markets will have attractive look and its heritage significance, said the Minister adding that the District Administration and Municipal Corporation were working in tandem to commence and accomplish the project within next six months.

“Dabbi Bazaar and Sheesh Mahal Bazaar are world renowned places for wood inlay works and handicraft potential, which would be revived. Tenders of these projects will be floated shortly so that the work on heritage-street can be started,” he added.

The Minister also informed that attractive gates would be developed at the entrance to these places so that the daily visitor could feel the heritage look of this place besides recarpeting of roads, installation of floor lights, similar sign boards etc.

The Minister was accompanied by Mayor Surinder Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait, Municipal Commissioner Ashika Jain, Chairman Improvement Trust Rakesh Marwaha, Councillors Balwinder Kumar, Pradeep Kumar, Anmol Jain and Monika Verma. Apart from these, Gopal Verma, DDF Piyush Goyal, Gurdeep Katoch, Advocate Naveen Jairath were also present.
