Preneet Kaur blasts Dr Gandhi’s fake claims over Anand Marriage Act

Patiala, May 12, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

Former union minister Ms Preneet Kaur today blasted the claims of the sitting MP Dharamvir Gandhi that he had facilitated the passage of the Anand Marriage Act in the parliament, when it had been passed much before he had joined politics.

“This is so characteristic of Gandhi’s bogus claims, as he is fond of making, Anand Marriage Act was passed in the parliament and given Presidential Assent in 2012 when he (Gandhi) had not even joined politics leave aside becoming an MP”, Ms Preneet Kaur said, while pointing out, he became an MP in 2014.

Giving details, she said, the act was presented in the parliament by independent member Tarlochan Singh in 2006 and was unanimously supported by all the MPs irrespective of their party affiliations and was passed unanimously in the parliament and accorded Assent by the President on June 7, 2012, two years before Gandhi became an MP.

Similarly, the former union minister added, the doubling of the railway line between Ambala to Dhuri and Dhuri to Bathinda was also approved when Pawan Kumar Bansal was the railway minister. “I am surprised as how Mr Gandhi can speak such blatant lies when everything is on record”, she remarked.

Referring to the setting up of the Passport Office in Patiala, for which Gandhi has again tried to claim the credit, she said, it was the government of India’s decision taken in 2012 to set up Regional Passport Offices and Passport Sewa Kendras in big and small cities across the country and Patiala was sanctioned a Passport Sewa Kendra then only, when she was herself the Minister of State for External Affairs.

Ms Preneet Kaur advised Gandhi to at least check the records before making claims over things which were already approved and done and in which he did not have any role in. “I can understand your frustration as you have not done anything for the people of Patiala and hence you are trying to claim the credit for things which were done much before you became an MP, rather before you even joined politics”, she told Gandhi, while adding, “but records don’t lie and you stand badly exposed”.
