The Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, New Delhi, is implementing the National Clean Air Programme with an aim to address air pollution in a comprehensive and time bound manner.
The focus is on collaborative and participatory approach involving Center and State Government, Local Bodies and other stakeholders to reduce air pollution in next 5 years.
Based on the ambient air data for the period of 2011-2015 for not meeting the annual average of 60 µg/m3 for PM10, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) have been identified/ declared non-Attainment Cities for NCAP and Patiala is declared as one of the non-attainment cities.
To aware the public and other stakeholder departments regarding the ill effects air pollution and steps to mitigate the same, Punjab Pollution Control Board, Regional Office, Patiala has organized workshop on Air pollution under National Clean Air Programme at Harpal Tiwana Hall, Model Town, Patiala under the able guidance of Hon’ble Chairman (PPCB) Prof. Satwinder Singh Marwaha.
During his address, Prof. Satwinder Singh Marwaha, Chairman, PPCB emphasized on collective efforts to be made by every resident of Patiala city to take care of the environment of the city.
Three specialists from the academia and field of research namely Dr. Ravindra Khaiwal, Add. Professor, Deptt. of Community Medicine & School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh, Dr. Amit Dhir, Asso. Prof., Head of School of Energy and Environment, Thapar University, Patiala and Dr. Anoop Verma, Asso. Prof., School of Energy and Environment, Thapar University, Patiala shared their experience with the audience.
The audience comprising of representative of industries and various govt. departments assured to play their part positively to make the environment of Patiala city clean & healthy.
