PPCB Chairman Marwaha releases IEC material regarding safe disposal of PPEs

Chandigarh, July 13, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab Pollution Control Board in coordination with Department of Environment Studies, Panjab University andDepartment of Community Medicine& School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh on 12.07.2020 released an IEC material to make the public as well as stakeholders aware regarding safe disposal of PPEs such as face masks, wipes and gloves used by the general public during COVID-19 pandemic. This program has been conducted under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).

Prof. S.S Marwaha, Chairman, PPCB,released the IEC material and he highlighted the meauses to be adopted to fight against COVID-19 pandemic and the neccessty of PPEs.He also brought that the masks to be used by the genral public must be cut, when these become discarded, to rule of the posibilty of its reuse and are to be kept in a paper bag for 72 hrs before handing over to household waste collector of the local bodies.

Dr. Ravindra Khaiwal, Additional Professor of Environment Health, PGIMER, who is the is the nodal facality for Punjab and its also a part of the expert panel of Nation Knowledge Network, highlighted about the awareness launched to make the public aware for the safe disposal of used maks and gloves as their unscientific disposal may cause potential health hazards. He stressed that PGIMER, in collaboration with Punjab University, has come up with the solution by developing IEC material for creating awareness among citizens to manage household waste properly to limit the spread of COVID infection and minimize the public health risks.

On this occasion,Sh. AK Sharma, Senior Environmental Engineer, PPCB, Dr. Maninder Kaur Sidhu, Senior Demonstrator, PGIMER and Er. Tanbir, Ph.D. Scholar, Punjab University,were also present.

The IEC material has been jointly designed by a team working with Dr. Suman Mor, Chairperson, Department of Environment Studies, Punjab University and Dr. Khaiwal, following the latest guidelines to aware the general public to follow the safe disposal practices. The team emphasizes on ‘simple action for corona prevention’ through community engagement.
