Jalandhar, December 14, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)
One person lost his life and two others sustained injuries after a powerful explosion rocked a scrap dealer’s shop in the Santokhpura area of Jalandhar on Sunday, triggering panic in the densely populated neighbourhood.
According to police, the blast was so intense that window panes of nearby houses were shattered, while residents said the sound of the explosion was heard nearly a kilometre away.
The deceased has been identified as Shivmangal, a native of Balrampur district in Uttar Pradesh, who was currently residing in a rented accommodation in Santokhpura. He was reportedly working at the scrap shop at the time of the incident.
Police officials from Police Station No. 8, Jalandhar, rushed to the spot soon after the explosion and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause.
Station House Officer Sagar Chaudhary stated that the blast occurred at the scrap shop owned by Jawahar, who is a cousin of the deceased. Preliminary information suggests that Shivmangal was striking scrap material with a hammer when the explosion took place.
The two injured individuals were immediately shifted to the civil hospital, where doctors confirmed that their condition is stable and they are out of danger.
Meanwhile, local residents have expressed differing views regarding the cause of the blast. Some believe a gas cylinder explosion may have triggered the incident, while others suspect that explosive material or a grenade-like object could have been present in the scrap, given the nature of the business.
Police officials have said that all possibilities are being examined and forensic teams may be involved to determine whether the explosion was accidental or caused by hazardous material mixed with the scrap. Further investigation is underway.
