Though the situation in the district Ludhiana due to floods completely under control But efforts to protect affected people and livestock from potential ailments are still continuing. Animals are being vaccinated in flood-affected villages. Till date, more than 2000 livestock have been vaccinated in these villages.
Giving this information, Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry Department Dr Ashok Kumar said that 13 animals have been dead in Ludhiana district due to the flood situation, Post mortem of dead animals have been done.
Eleven of these animals were killed due to rising water flow in Kum Kalan drain, while two animals were killed due to roof collapsed after heavy rains in village Gill. During this time, 50 animals were subjected to various diseases, many of which have been saved with timely treatment.
He said that the department had already vaccinated 5.80 lakh livestock of Ludhiana district before the monsoon but now after the flood, more than 2000 livestock of dozen of flood-affected have been given booster dose. In the villages where there was a lot of water, a survey is being carried out. Animal testing camps are underway in the affected villages so that no disease spreads among the livestock.
Ashok Sharma said that two trolleys, 200 sacks of feed and a truck of straw were also distributed in the villages. In addition, 60 sacks of silage (Achaar) have been sent to the flood-hit villages of district Jalandhar.
He said that the department was sending 150 more sacks of silage to the affected villages of Jalandhar and Kapurthala districts. He said that 17 teams have been deployed in the flood-affected villages which will remain in the villages till the alert is in force.
