PNB Met Life Punjab Open Badminton Tournament begins, 750 plays to take part in 10 events

PNB MetLife Punjab Open Badminton Championship was inaugurated on Wednesday by District Badminton Association Secretary and former national player Ritin Khanna at the local Raizada Hansraj Badminton Stadium. 750 players are participating in the five-day long tournament.

Giving information about the tournament, Organizer Sanket Shetty said that about 750 players from Punjab and other states are participating in this championship. Singles event is being held from Under 9 to Under 17 category for boys and girls. The winners will be given trophies and cash prizes of Rs 3 lakhs on September 22.

The winning player will be awarded Rs 15,000/-, the runner-up will get Rs 10,000/- while the third and fourth placed players will be awarded a cash amount of Rs 2500 each. 10 such tournaments are being organized across the country. The total prize money in all these competitions is Rs 30 lakh which will be distributed among the winners.

On this occasion, DBA Secretary Ritin Khanna said that the players performing in this tournament will represent the state and the country at the international level in future. He wished all the participants the best and hoped that the experience gained in the tournament would be helpful in their future endeavors.

The PNB MetLife Junior Badminton Championship has achieved the prestigious distinction of being recognized as the world’s largest junior badminton tournament by the World Records Certification Agency (WRCA) for two consecutive years. The event has received support from prominent personalities of Indian badminton, including Satwik Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty, Prakash Padukone, Ashwini Ponnappa, Vimal Kumar and Chetan Anand.
