PIMS to be converted into 350 bedded COVID Care Facility

In another initiative aimed at containing the Covid 19 pandemic more efficaciously, the district administration today gave in principle approval for converting 350 bedded Covid Treatment Facility at the Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) into Covid Care Treatment facility, to meet any unforeseen urgency.

A decision to this effect was taken during a meeting by the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma and Commissioner of Police Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar with the hospital management on Wednesday evening. During the meeting in principle approval was given for setting up the Covid Care Treatment facility, if the need arises, adding that the formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for this would be signed in the coming days.

The PIMS would be declared Covid isolation centre by government of Punjab after signing of MoU.

During the meeting with the hospital authorities, the Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Police said that in this situation when the entire globe was fighting with pandemic the PIMS has to play a major role. They said that being a medical college the hospital has a state of the art infrastructure which could be required for further tackling this pandemic effectively. Both the officers said that need of the hour was to join hand for fighting Corona Virus through a multi pronged approach.

The Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Police said that there was no dearth of resources and manpower with the state government to tackle this pandemic. They said that the major focus was only on saving the precious lives of people from thus pandemic for which all of us have to join hands. Both the officers said that it was the moral duty of all of us to fight this war against Covid 19 effectively with better coordination.

On the occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Vishesh Sarangal, Chief Executive Officer Smart City Dr. Shena Aggarwal, Sub Divisional Magistrate Mr. Rahul Sindhu and others were also present.
