Ludhiana, August 25, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)
A special literary function organized by the Young Writers Association at the Students’ Home Auditorium of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) marked the release of noted poetess and photo-artist Jas Preet’s new book, “Ahsaasan Di Kin Min” (The Murmurs of Feelings).
The event was graced by Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor of PAU, as the chief guest, while Swaranjit Savi, Chairman of Punjab Arts Council, Chandigarh, presided over the function. Among the distinguished guests were eminent thinker and writer Amarjit Grewal, Darshan Butter, President of Kendri Punjabi Lekhak Sabha, and Pro Vice- Chancellor of Guru Kashi University Dr Jagtar Singh Dhiman.
In his address, Dr Gosal congratulated the author and remarked that the photographs in the book beautifully depicted the natural scenes of PAU’s campus. He noted that Jas Preet, through her daily walks across the university, drew inspiration from nature – an inspiration that has long nurtured poets, writers, theatre artists, and even scientists at PAU.
Swaranjit Savi observed that the book uniquely blended poetry, photography, and prose, highlighting Jas Preet’s talent for infusing lyrical beauty even into narrative writing.
Darshan Butter praised the book’s fresh appeal, noting that “nature speaks through its pages” and lauded her gift for finding profound subjects in everyday life.
Amarjit Grewal complimented her photography and reflected on the poetic depth of her expressions. Citing the Green Revolution and its fallout, he emphasized how sensitivity of mind – particularly in managing natural resources and the environment – was vital for ushering in need-based development.
Dr Dhiman, who earlier translated Jas Preet’s book “Paunan Di Sargam” (Jingling Breezes) into English, called her a poetess of nature whose writings radiated beauty, sensitivity, and life’s deeper messages.
Dr Nirmal Jaura, Director of Students’ Welfare, PAU, recalled that the university has nurtured many great poets, including Principal Sant Singh Sekhon, Dr Surjit Patar, Prof Mohan Singh, Krishan Adeeb, Gurbhajan Gill, and Ajaib Chitrakar. He said Jas Preet was proudly walking in their footsteps.
Speaking on the occasion, Jas Preet expressed gratitude to PAU, calling it the “land of dreams,” enriched by the legacy of Dr MS Randhawa, Dr Surjit Patar, and many other lovers of art and nature. She shared that the inspiration for “Ahsaasan Di Kin Min” arose from her daily walks on campus, where life’s joys and sorrows stirred emotions that eventually found expression in poetry. She also fondly recalled her literary conversations with Padma Shri Dr Surjit Patar.
Dr Rupinder Kaur, Associate Director Culture, said that presence of renowned literary personalities at PAU will motivate the university students for actively participation in literary events.
Dr Bikramjit Singh, President Young Writers’ Association, proposed a vote of thanks. The event was attended by Dr Kamaljit Suri, Joint Director Students’ Welfare; Dr Ranjit Singh, and a large gathering of poets, writers, and literature enthusiasts as well as photo artists.
Dr Ashoo Toor conducted the event.
