PAU student Tenzin Chhoden gets first prize in Poster Presentation

Ms Tenzin Chhoden, a Ph.D student of the Department of Food Science and Technology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), won the first prize in poster presentation during the International Conference on “Strategies for Global Food and Nutritional Security, Sustainability and Wellness (NUTRI-2023),” organized by CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar from December 4-6. Working under the guidance of Dr PoonamAggarwal Sachdev, Principal Food Technologist (Vegetable), PAU, Ms Chhoden presented the paper on the topic “Enhancing the functionality of corn starch edible films through carotenoid emulsion prepared from yellow carrot pomace.”

Dr Poonam Aggarwal Sachdev, Major Advisor and Professor of Food Science and Technology, explained that Yellow Carrot Pomace (YCP), a byproduct of juice processing, emerged as a promising and cost-effective source of carotenoids, which were explored as functional ingredient in edible packaging. Addition of carotenoid emulsion (15-45%) made from lyphoilized YCP increased functionality and phytochemical potential of the films, she added.

Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU; Dr Charanjit Singh Aulakh, Dean, College of Agriculture and Dean of Postgraduate Studies; and Dr Savita Sharma, Head, Department of Food Science and Technology, congratulated Ms Chhoden and her Major Advisor Dr Sachdev for this achievement and wished them success in their future endeavours.
