PAU COA Alumni meet celebrates remarkable journey of Dr KJS Mangat

The recently concluded 59th Alumni Meet of the PAU College of Agriculture was a momentous occasion paying tribute to one of its distinguished alumni, Dr Kanwar Jasbir Singh Mangat.

Born on October 22nd, 1954, in the serene village of Lalton Khurd in Ludhiana, Dr Mangat’s journey is a testament to dedication, perseverance, and outstanding achievements.

Dr Mangat’s academic voyage commenced with a B. Sc. Agriculture (Hons.) degree in 1976, followed by a profound pursuit of knowledge leading to an M. Sc. in Sociology in 1978 and a Ph. D. in Sociology in 1982, all from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.

His association with the university burgeoned as he joined the Department of Economics and Sociology in 1982, ultimately attaining the esteemed position of Associate Professor of Sociology in 1995.

In April 1998, Dr Mangat embarked on a new chapter by relocating to Toronto, Canada, where he carved a niche in the real estate industry. Since 2001, he has been recognized as an established Real Estate Broker, bringing his expertise and professionalism to serve the Ontario community.

Speaking about the scientist, PAU Vice Chancellor Dr SS Gosal remarked that Dr Mangat’s commitment to fostering connections and serving his alma mater shines brightly beyond his professional endeavours.

Dr Gosal further described his leadership roles within the North American PAU Alumni Association, notably as Vice President from 2008-2010 and 2017-2019 and as President from 2012-2014, underscoring his dedication to nurturing the bonds of the alumni community.

In 2022, Dr Mangat was bestowed with the prestigious Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Pin, a testament to his unwavering dedication and service.

This accolade stands as a symbol of recognition for his significant contributions to the community, recognition truly well-deserved.

In a statement, PAU’s Additional Director of Communication, Dr TS Riar, along with Dr HS Dhaliwal, Former Dean, College of Agriculture, said that Dr Mangat’s illustrious journey inspires the students and epitomizes Punjab Agricultural University’s values.
