The Surjit Hockey Coaching Camp in progress here at local Surjit Hockey Stadium is witnessing great enthusiasm among the girls.
According to Surinder Singh Bhapa, Director (Coaching Camp), Surjit Hockey Society, the participation of a large number of boys as well as girls in the hockey camp organized by the Surjit Hockey Society for the last 68 days is a good sign for the advancement of women’s hockey.
He said that in this ongoing hockey coaching camp where more than 100 players are participating, out of which 32 players are girls. He said that these players are very talented and they have a lot of enthusiasm to become a good player.
Surinder Singh Bhapa further said that former Olympians and international players who have excelled in the field of women hockey would also be invited to teach them the tricks of hockey.
Surinder Singh Bhapa further said that the hockey wing of Government Senior Secondary School, Nehru Garden was known as the nursery of women’s hockey, which produced the largest number of national and international players in the country but after its closure by the government, there has been a sharp decline in women’s hockey.
According to him, this Nehru Garden Hockey Wing has produced famous players like Arjinder Kaur Saini, Rajbir Kaur, Nisha Sharma, Baljit Kaur (Coach), Chanchal Randhawa, Pritpal Kaur. He demanded taht the Government should immediately restart the hockey wing at Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Nehru Garden, known as Nursery of Women’s Hockey.
