Senior Congress Leader & Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Partap Singh Bajwa has deplored the Bhagwant Mann government as legislators of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) continued to intimidate Punjab officials with dire consequences if they refused to toe their line.
Bajwa said AAP MLA from Taran Taran Kashmir Singh Sohal has threatened Taran Taran Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ranjit Singh Sohal of strict action if he failed to cancel a case registered against his close associate Harpreet Singh and 13 others for illegally chopping off eucalyptus trees without procuring mandatory permission from the state forest department.
“ It is really a worrying trend how AAP MLAs everyday are courting one or the other controversy, misbehave, threaten senior Punjab officials with impunity and chief minister Bhagwant Mann does not speak even a single word on it to control his intemperate legislators”.
Bajwa while referring to the media reports said Taran Taran MLA even said that he would ensure the SSP was transferred to an insignificant post if he did not withdraw the case registered against his associate.
On one hand the Punjab officials have to abide by the directions of the chief minister who wanted to plant maximum sapling to ensure better green cover in the state while on the other hand the legislators were supporting those elements who were chopping off trees illegally.
Bajwa said just a few days ago DCP Naresh Dogra was beaten by AAP MLA Raman Arora and on the same day Rajan Aungural, brother of another AAP MLA Sheetal Aungural misbehaved with the Emergency Medical Officer (EMO) Harveen Kaur in Jalandhar civil hospital. However neither the chief minister nor the police took action against the erring AAP MLAs. In fact the Jalandhar police went into overdrive to protect the AAP MLAs.
Similarly Beant Kaur, wife of Faridkot MLA, Gurdit Singh Sekhon misnehaved with the deputy commissioner Ruhi Dugg, but Bhagwant Mann uttered not even a single word in defense of the IAS officer.
“ It is really unfortunate that the Punjab officials who execute orders of the chief minister and the other cabinet ministers have to bear the brunt of the rash and rowdy behavior of the AAP MLAs and both Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann conveniently ignore their plight”, added Bajwa.
