Veteran Congress leader and Punjab Assembly Leader of Opposition, Partap Singh Bajwa, has publicly expressed strong support for acclaimed singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh amid the recent controversy surrounding his upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3.
The dispute erupted after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) demanded that Dosanjh’s Indian citizenship be revoked over the inclusion of Pakistani actress Hania Amir in the movie.
Bajwa sharply criticized the demand, calling it “unreasonable and unjustified.” He stated, “Diljit Dosanjh is not just an entertainer; he is a global cultural ambassador who has elevated Indian and Punjabi identity on world stages like Coachella and the Met Gala. These are globally recognized platforms, and instead of criticizing him, we should celebrate his efforts.”
The Congress leader emphasized that the film industry is driven by Indian producers and sustains countless Indian livelihoods. “These creative ventures are fueled by Indian investment and talent. Undermining someone like Diljit, who continuously showcases our culture internationally, sends a regressive message,” he noted.
Bajwa further called for protecting artistic liberty and avoiding the politicization of cross-border collaborations. “India’s diversity thrives on freedom of expression and creativity. We must not let narrow outrage threaten our artists’ ability to connect globally,” he said.
He concluded by urging the public and institutions to recognize Diljit’s artistic integrity and his role in promoting India’s cultural heritage on a global scale.
