While lashing out strongly at the Capt. Amarinder Singh led Punjab Government for the recent hike in the property taxes in the State, the Shiromani Akali Dal (Democratic) said that the hiked prices should immediately be rolled back. The party also demanded that the Punjab Government should also withdraw hike done in power and oil prices too.
In an official statement issued here today, Senior Party Leader, MLA and Former Finance Minister, S. Parminder Singh Dhindsa said that before the 2017 elections, Capt. Amarinder Singh had made numerous fake promises of reducing power prices, not imposing additional tax burden on the people of the state.
He said that in the last budget session of Captain government had promised the people of the state that no new tax would be imposed in this financial year. However, just a month after the budget session, the Government has started levying hidden taxes. The Congress government has started it by increasing the property tax by 5 per cent.
He said that“It is really unfortunate to see that how the Capt. Amarinder Singh led Punjab Government instead of providing relief to the people in the Corona crisis is overburdening the people of the State by making continuous increase in Power traffic, Oil price and now has hiked the property tax too,” said Sh. Parminder Singh Dhindsa.
He said that Punjab is among the states which purchases cheapest in the country in spite of this power in the State more expensive than in other states of the country.
“It is only because of the wrong policies of the State Government that the people are bearing the brunt by paying a high cost for the electricity and are overburdened due to the hiked property tax,” said S. Parminder Singh Dhindsa.
S. Dhindsa also opposed the hike in petrol and diesel prices in the state. He said that in many states of the country, the prices of petrol and diesel have been reduced instead of increasing but with the increase in taxes on petrol and diesel in Punjab it has become more expensive in the State.
S. Dhindsa said that like the SAD-BJP government, Congress government is also looting the people and filling its reserves by making expensive deals with the private companies by keeping its own interests paramount.
“In the coming days, SAD (Democratic) will put a tough fight against the Punjab Government for doing the hike in property tax, electricity and oil prices forcing the Government to roll back the hikes,” said S. Parminder Singh Dhindsa.
He said many households in the state were being sent electricity bills in excess of their consumption. S. Dhindsa demanded that Punjab Government should immediately wave off the false and bogus bills being sent to the people of the State.
