Education, Sports and NRI affairs minister Punjab Pargat Singh on Saturday evening dedicated a newly constructed government college in Shahkot, which was built at an outlay of Rs. 11 crore by the state government. While dedicating the college, the minister accompanied by Member Parliament Santokh Chaudhry, MLA Shahkot Hardev Singh Ladi Sherowalia, said that this college would further promote higher education in the region besides fulfilling the much-needed demand of the people of Shahkot.
He mentioned that the college would emerge as a centre for higher studies by imparting quality education at affordable prices.
The Minister said that the college would offer three professional courses including BCA, B.com, and B.A. with 80 seats each for B.A. and B.com and 60 seats for BCA course. He added that the first academic session has started here this year and students are already attending online classes. He said that the college, spread over four acres of land, was equipped with ultra modern facilities aimed at ensuring holistic development of students.
Reiterating Punjab government’s commitment in revamping educational and sports infrastructure in the state, the Minister said that he would leave no stone unturned to provide top class education facilities in government educational establishments. He hailed the efforts of the education department in making Punjab number one state in performance grading index while urging the officials to work hard to sustain this position.
Meanwhile, welcoming the Cabinet Minister Pargat Singh, Principal government college Shahkot Sarabjit Singh said that this college would serve the youngsters in Shahkot and surrounding areas with professional courses.
