Singer-composer Papon has released his latest track, “Apni Uljhan”, a soulful song that explores love, separation and the process of rediscovering oneself after the end of a relationship.
Reflecting on the song, Papon said he connected deeply with its emotional theme, which captures the struggle of emerging from confusion and learning to find inner balance.
“I really connected with the emotion behind Apni Uljhan’s lyrics because it speaks about that phase in life when you are trying to come out of your own confusion and learning to hold yourself together, and it’s one of my favourite tracks from Sar-e-Shaam album,” he said in a statement.
Written by lyricist Vaibhav Modi, “Apni Uljhan” is told from the perspective of someone gradually coming to terms with emotional turmoil and finding stability within themselves.
The song explores an often-unspoken aspect of healing — when a person’s journey towards moving on is perceived by someone from their past as a change in personality.
“This Ghazal has more traditional approach in melody and minimal arrangement. Sometimes healing can look like change to the people who knew you before, and I think the song captures that emotion very honestly,” Papon said.
With its vulnerable poetry and understated musical arrangement, the track explores the space between letting go and remaining emotionally affected by a past relationship. It portrays self-discovery and quiet resilience, making the song relatable to listeners navigating heartbreak and the process of finding their way back to themselves.
Papon began his musical journey in 1998 with the Assamese song “Nasaba Sokule” from the album Snigdha Junak. He released his debut album, Junaki Raati, in 2004.
He made his Bollywood singing debut with “Om Mantra” from Strings – Bound by Faith in 2006. His first major Hindi film hit came with “Jiyein Kyun” from Dum Maaro Dum in 2011.
Over the years, Papon has lent his voice to several popular songs, including “Lakeerein”, a Gulzar poem featured in Kya Dilli Kya Lahore, “Sun Ri Bavli” from Lakshmi, “Moh Moh Ke Dhaage” from Dum Laga Ke Haisha, “Humnava” from Hamari Adhuri Kahani and “Bulleya” from Sultan.
