With the efforts of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), about 500 members of 56 Sikh families from 12 villages in the border area of Punjab did Ghar Wapsi (returned back) to Sikh faith. These Sikh families are from Guru Ki Wadali, Khaparkheri, Ramuwal, Dhatal, Cheecha, Bhakna, Burj, Sohal, Jhabbal and other villages of the border area.
About 100 Sikhs, who returned to Sikh faith, who attended the special ceremony, held at Gurdwara Chheharta Sahib Patshahi Chhevin, Amritsar, were jointly honoured by SGPC members Mangwinder Singh Khaparkheri, Bawa Singh Gumanpura, Dharam Prachar Committee (DPC) Sukhwarsh Singh Pannu, and assistant secretary Balwinder Singh Kahlwan with Siropaos (robes of honour) and religious literature.
Addressing on this occasion, DPC member Sukhwarsh Singh Pannu welcomed the families who returned to Sikh faith and urged them to motivate others to stay away from delusion and misleading propaganda of so-called Christian preachers
Speaking on this occasion, DPC assistant secretary Balwinder Singh Kahlwan said that these Sikh families had fallen victim to misleading propaganda of so-called Christian preachers. He said there is a strong spirit of Sikh faith in them and they have returned back to their faith realizing the same.
Balwinder Singh said that as per instructions of SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, the SGPC’s DPC is conducting a preaching campaign in the border area and special attention is being paid to the cases of religious conversion. He said during the preaching campaign it has come to light that the cases of conversion are due to lack of knowledge and misleading propaganda and so-called Christian preachers are misleading the people.
He said SGPC is conducting a survey in the border areas and the people in these areas are being informed about the facilities provided to the needy by SGPC. During the religious preaching campaign, the Sangat (community) is being apprised about the free education scheme of SGPC to poor students as well as Amritdhari (initiated) students. It is being apprised that the SGPC has established free hostel facilities at Talwandi Sabo and Sri Fatehgarh Sahib for the higher education of Amritdhari Sikh girls. The SGPC makes the arrangement of education, hostel and food for the students here. Moreover, the SGPC also organises medical camps in the border villages for healthcare facilities.
Balwinder Singh said that all these facilities are for the needy and the Sangat should take advantage of the same. He appealed to the Sangat to be aware of scams and misleading propaganda of so-called Christian preachers.
