On SKM’s call, BKU Ekta Ugrahan burns effigies of BJP Govt

Chandigarh, 31 January, 2022 (Daljeet Kaur Bhawanigarh)
As a mark of strong resentment and protest due to the backing out by the Government of India on the written commitments signed under exemplary pressure of the farmers’ struggle, and due to the casual attitude and cold feet developed by the Government, Bharti Kisan Union BKU (EKTA UGRAHAN) Volunteers held huge demonstrations and burnt Effigies of Government of India in 16 districts of Punjab . Protest demonstrations held at 12 DC offices and 10 offices of SDMs.

General Secretary Sukhdev Singh Kokri Kalan, through the press statement issued here today at state level stated that more than a lakh of women, youth, farmers and farm labour along with employees, contract workers, students and other small self employed job holders participated in these high sounding protest demonstrations.

Among those who addressed these protesters in addition to the General Secretary himself today, included State President, Joginder Singh Ugrahan, Senior Vice President Jhanda Singh Jethuke, Secretary Shingara Singh Mann, Hardip Singh Tallewal, Jaswinder Singh Longowal, Harinder Kaur Bindu, Kamaljit Kaur Barnala, Gurprit Kaur Bras, Kuldip Kaur Kussa, Roop Singh Chhanna, Janak Singh Bhutal, Jagtar Singh Kala Jhar, along with the block and district leaders including the Presidents and Secretaries of the Block and District units of the Union.

The speakers strongly condemned the breach of trust done with the farmers by the Government of India. They alleged that at the time of satisfactory resolution of the repeal of the three black farm laws, Government of India vide their letter dated 9th December 2021, had agreed and promised to constitute a committee to ensure the MSP to be fixed for all crops as per recommendations of Swaminathan Commission and also to ensure purchase of all crops at the MSP so determined and to strengthening the public distribution system.

For removal and arrest of the central Minister Ajay Mishra Teni, the main culprit, for crushing 4 farmers and injuring others by running over the vehicles by under a pre-planned well conspired conspiracy at Lakhim pur Kheri and punish all the culprits, withdrawal of all cases slapped against farmers and labour, in Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, UP and other states during kisn andolan, release of all farmers and those connected with kisan andolan from prisions, Rehabilitation and appropriate compensation to the families and heirs of more than 700 farmers, labour, women, youth and others, Regular government job to one family member in each case, scraping/waiving of all loans standing against them who lost their lives during the Andolan, farmer and labour friendly amendments in electricity amendment bill 2020. All these demands had been agreed to be implemented within a month.

However thereafter the Government is continuously running away and adopting non serious and casual attitude, and the same shall prove to be another peg in the political coffin of the BJP Government. Speakers also stressed upon the newly emerging demand of opening the educational institutions, schools colleges, universities and all other educational institutions, closed down under pretext of Omicron, in as much as even the highest world level professional bodies on health and the Higher Judiciary has also called this act as an uncalled for step.

This is an anti people step that snatches the right of the children to education, study and learn.

The speakers also called upon the participants and the masses to remain aware of the efforts of the powers that be to put and end to the unity of farmers, labour and other toiling masses, by way of unnecessary din of the Vidhan Sabha Elections and remain aware of the nefarious designs.

They stressed and made it a point of focus that during previous 70 years all the political parties are culprit in confusing the people through election promises as a stunt and thereafter the breach of trust blatantly.

All parties try their level best to snatch the facilities of the common man and hand over the same in turn to the imperialist corporate, for their sky rocketing super profits.

They all concentrate on the policies of privatization, globalization and liberalization. Therefore it is sham to think that the basic issues of common man can be resolved through elections and thus removing these illusions , a call has been handed out that whole strength and resources should be used in strengthening the wider movement of struggle.
