Noted Punjabi Novelist Jaswant Singh Kanwal cremated at home village Dhudike

Renowned Punjabi novelist Jaswant Singh Kanwal, 100, who died at his home in village Dhudike of Moga district was cremated at his village on Saturday afternoon.

Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu along with MLA Moga Dr Harjot Kamal, MLA Baghapurana Darshan Singh Brar, MLA Dharamkot Sukhjit Singh Lohgarh, MLA Sanjeev Talwar, Former Minister Dr Malti Thapar and Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Hans laid wreaths and paid condolences to the bereaved family.

Senior Superintendent of Police Amarjit Singh Bajwa, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Moga Satwant Singh and Former Minister Tota Singh were also present. Thousands of people from different walks of life poured at the Cremation Ground in Dhudike and bid a tearful adieu to the novelist.

Novelist Jaswant Kanwal is survived by son Sarabjit Singh and daughter Roopinderjit Kaur.

Jaswant Kanwal, who was born on June 27, 1919 in Dhudike village had penned over 100 books on Punjab, Punjabiat, farming, social issues and villages. His famous books include Sach Nu Fansi, Puranmashi, Paali, Raat Baaki Hai, Mittar Pyaare Nu, Haani, Baraf Di Agg, Lahu Di Loh, Zindagi Dur Nahi etc.

On the occasion, Film Director Manmohan Singh, Principal Sarwan Singh, Professor Ravinder Bhattal, Professor Gurbhajan Gill, Jatinder Pannu, Surjit Singh Kaunke, General Secretary Ranjit Singh Dhanna, Writer Hari Singh, Pawan Harchandpuri, Gurmeet Singh Nambardar, Sarpanch Jasbir Singh, Naib Tehsildar Manvir Kaur Sidhu, Gurcharan Singh Shergill, Baldev Singh Sadaknama, Professor Guriqbal Singh, DIG Gurpreet Singh Toor, Tejwant Singh Mann among others were present.
