Former Education Minister and Spokesman of the Shiromani Akali Dal Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema today said that during the tenure of the SAD-BJP government there was a provision in Annual Confidential Report (ACR) of the teachers to give 8 marks to those who promote mother tongue Punjabi language but the present Congress government has done away with the provision to give 8 marks and instead has started giving 5 marks to those who will promote English in schools.
He said that people of the state are surprised at decision of the government in a state whose official language is Punjabi.
In a statement released from the party head office here today, Dr. Cheema said that earlier the government had made a provision to give 5 marks to those teachers who will teach 10 percent students of their class in English language and now this decision to abolish provision to give 8 marks to those who promote Punjabi language.
He said that it means that those who are pro Punjabi and work for Punjabi language will lose 13 marks according to new rules framed by the Congress government. He said that message of the government for teachers is clear, no need to promote Punjabi as you will get nothing and lose 13 marks.
Dr. Cheema has written a letter to Higher Education and Language Department Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa and apprised him about the development. In his letter, he informed Bajwa that Education Department is ill treating Punjabi language and he had apprised Chief Minister about this.
He said that officers in Education Department are working on a well designed plan to cause maximum damage to Punjabi and efforts are being made to this rich language of Guru Sahiban. He said that these actions are a serious violation of the Punjab state language act 1967.
Dr. Cheema said that Punjabi language teaches our new generation about our rich heritage, glorious history and divine language.
Demanding independent probe into this issue, Dr. Cheema said that it should be ascertained that on whose instance these decision are being taken.He said that after thorough probe these anti Punjabi decisions should be cancelled and old performa of the ACR should be revived and guilty officials should be punished.
