Mumbai, September 3, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Actress Nimisha Sajayan has opened up about the demanding physical transformation she underwent for her role in “Babita Singh Reporting”, revealing that she gained nearly 14 kg for the character and described consuming up to 8,000 calories a day as an “absolute nightmare”.

Nimisha plays Assistant Sub-Inspector Babita Singh in the Ambiecka Pandit directorial. In an exclusive conversation with IANS, the actress said she weighed 58 kg when she was selected for the role before beginning a professionally supervised weight-gain programme that eventually took her weight to 72 kg.

“Yes, I gained like almost 14 kgs for the character. I was 58 when I got selected, then we started working on the weight gain journey,” Nimisha said.

She credited Dr Siddhant Karan and chef Saif Dada for helping her through the transformation. According to the actress, her daily calorie intake initially stood at 1,200 before gradually rising to around 8,000 calories.

“It was a nightmare, it was an absolute nightmare for me. 8,000 calories is a lot. 8,000 calories is like a lot of food,” she said, describing how she was “literally stuffing food” to meet the requirement.

Despite the difficulty, Nimisha said she enjoyed the process because the transformation helped her feel more connected to Babita.

The physical change was an important part of her portrayal of Babita, an underconfident police officer who is often dismissed at work and finds herself constantly adapting to the expectations of those around her.

After completing the project, Nimisha immediately began working towards returning to her earlier weight. “I got back to my 1000 calories per day and worked out hard,” she said.

Nimisha has previously spoken about being judged for her appearance and said such comments no longer affect her as deeply. Drawing a parallel with Babita, she said repeated disrespect can eventually push a person to respond.

“You take it but there’s a point of disrespect, and after a point, you start reacting,” she said.

“Babita Singh Reporting” premiered on August 28.
